Boeing, Korean Air finalise order for 103 aircraft

Korean Air has reached a $36.2 billion deal with Boeing to purchase 103 aircraft, marking the completion of a significant order first announced in 2025. The order encompasses a range of aircraft, including 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s, and eight 777-8 Freighters. The 787-10, currently the only model in the order certified for commercial service, is a key component of Korean Air's fleet expansion plans.

Aviation consultancy IBA estimated the value of the order at $12.6 billion at current market prices, after accounting for discounts. Korean Air valued the package at $44.8 billion, which includes a $8.6 billion deal for 21 spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International, as well as a 15-year engine maintenance agreement covering 28 aircraft.

The investment aims to support long-term fleet growth following Korean Air's integration of Asiana Airlines and improve fuel efficiency as the airline transitions to newer aircraft models. This largest-ever order for Korean Air, announced during South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's visit to Washington last year, is seen as a testament to the strengthening ties between the United States and South Korea. The deal also underscores Boeing's success in bilateral trade discussions.
