Android Canary 2609 adds ‘Require unlock for Quick Settings’ on Pixel

Google has released Android Canary 2609, featuring an update to Quick Settings on Pixel devices. Available for various Pixels, this version also comes with the September 2026 security patch, ZP11.260821.010. The update introduces a new "Require unlock for Quick Settings" toggle, which is disabled by default. This setting requires users to unlock their device before making changes to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, and Airplane Mode.

While the Quick Settings panel can still be accessed from the lockscreen, tapping on these key Tiles will prompt a fingerprint or PIN unlock. Flashlight, rotation, dark theme, and other settings do not require authorization. Google notes that support for Pixel 11 devices will be added in the next Canary release, while support for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will be dropped. Users should note that Canary builds are experimental and not recommended for general use.
