AGC: Dropping four charges against Muhyiddin based on evidence, litigation risks; three Jana Wibawa charges remain

The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) in Malaysia has decided not to proceed with four charges against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin related to Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd. This decision was based on a thorough assessment of the evidence, its viability, and the potential risks involved in pursuing the case. The AGC emphasized that the decision did not imply any wrongdoing or that the transactions were fabricated.

Instead, it highlighted that prosecutorial decisions should be made considering the broader interests of justice and the implications for other ongoing cases. The AGC also warned that proceeding with the charges could lead to legal battles and undermine the prosecution's strategy. Despite dropping the four charges, the AGC will continue to pursue three other predicate charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 against Muhyiddin.

These charges revolve around three different companies and involve a total of RM 25.3 million in alleged bribes. Muhyiddin, a 79-year-old politician, is now facing trial on three charges of using his position to obtain bribes for Bersatu, in connection with the Jana Wibawa project. The prosecution has concluded its case against Muhyiddin, having presented 29 witnesses during the trial.
