Agbodza issues warning letter to contractor over slow progress on Cape Coast-Takoradi dualisation

Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza has voiced his discontent with the slow progress on the dualisation of the Cape Coast-Takoradi Road, particularly on the 23.6-kilometre stretch between kilometres 164 and 187.6. During a site inspection on September 16, 2026, the Minister directed that warning letters be sent to the contractors, S&L Construction and Engineering, for their failure to meet the planned work schedule.

Agbodza expressed shock at the significant discrepancy between the planned and executed works, questioning how the contractors, who were among the first to mobilize to the site, could fall so far behind. He dismissed rainfall as a valid reason for the delay, pointing to the progress made on another project in the Enchi area under similar weather conditions.

The government, according to Agbodza, will no longer tolerate rain-related excuses for inadequate progress. He emphasized that the contractors must ramp up their activities and mobilization on-site, warning that a follow-up letter will be issued and the Chief Executive of the Ghana Highway Authority will be updated on the matter. The contractors were given three weeks to demonstrate improved work output.
