50 firms in Indonesia sealed off over forest, land fires

Indonesia's forestry ministry has sealed off approximately 50 companies across eight provinces following the detection of forest and land fire hotspots within their operational areas. Deputy environment minister Diaz Hendropriyono stated that authorities are investigating the involvement of these companies in the fires, with sanctions potentially imposed if proven culpability.

As of Tuesday evening, 1,037 hotspots were detected nationwide, marking a decrease of 400 or roughly 27.8% from 1,437 hotspots the previous day. The reduction in hotspots was observed in Central, West, and South Kalimantan, while increases were noted in South Sumatra, Jambi, and Riau provinces. Central Kalimantan reported 266 hotspots, South Sumatra had 245, South Kalimantan recorded 72, Jambi had 62, West Kalimantan reported 43, and Riau had 15 hotspots.
