1,432 human trafficking victims receive rehabilitation support – Gender Minister

The government of Ghana has announced that 1,432 individuals who were victims of human trafficking have received rehabilitation and reintegration support, according to Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. The support provided includes psychosocial care, rehabilitation, and assistance to help survivors rebuild their lives after the traumatic experience of trafficking.

Of these, 181 survivors received trauma-informed care at shelters, and an additional 69 survivors were referred for further support and services.

The Ministry has also provided 152 survivors of domestic violence with counselling, legal, and financial assistance. Dr Lartey emphasized that survivors of sexual or gender-based violence can access the Orange Support Center toll-free at 0800 111 222 or through WhatsApp at 055 1755 7575. The government has taken steps to establish a shelter in Accra and supported the creation of two additional shelters in the Upper West and Eastern Regions. The long-term goal is to create a network of shelters across all 16 regions of the country.

Dr Lartey explained that these interventions are crucial to ensure that survivors have access to immediate protection, counselling, legal assistance, and other services needed to rebuild their lives following abuse or exploitation.
