West Bengal: BJP Fields Hasirani Rath For Nandigram Assembly Byelection, Suvendu Adhikari Joins Nomination Rally

On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated Hasirani Rath as the party candidate for the Nandigram Assembly byelection. Hasirani Rath is known for being the mother of Chandranath Rath, a former aide to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari who was killed on May 6, 2026. Suvendu Adhikari was present at the rally where Hasirani Rath submitted her nomination papers at the Sub-Divisional Officer's office. Adhikari confidently addressed the crowd, stating his belief in securing a larger victory for the Nandigram seat.

Rath informed the audience that the CBI is investigating the killing of Chandranath Rath, adding that more than Rs. 2 crores were reportedly used by a criminal gang involved in the incident. The BJP candidate emphasized that the election would determine the support of the minority community and declared his intention to win the constituency for Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. He also expressed gratitude towards the party for his support.

In other news, the mother of a rape and murder victim, Ratna Debnath, has also been given a ticket to contest the Nandigram polls and has been elected as the BJP MLA from the Panihati constituency. Meanwhile, sources reveal that former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had discussions with Congress leaders regarding the Nandigram constituency, and the TMC was prepared to relinquish the seat, but Congress declined Mamata Banerjee's proposal.
