Tension at King’s College as staff resist old boys’ entry

A dispute erupted at King's College in Lagos when protesting staff union members prevented the opening of the school gates to allow members of the Old Boys' Association to enter. The association sought to hold a press conference within the school's premises, but faced resistance from the protesting staff union. Old Boys' Association President, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, addressed the press in front of the main gate, asserting that the Federal Government had transferred management of the college through a Public-Private Partnership.

According to Ibrahim-Imam, the arrangement was not a sale or privatization, but rather an initiative to improve the college's infrastructure. He also stated that the association had no intention of increasing school fees, as their goal was to restore the college's facilities. Ibrahim-Imam assured teachers that their salaries and allowances would be doubled if they chose to remain under the PPP arrangement.

The police intervened to open the gates, leading to a physical altercation, resulting in injuries for some protesting staff members. The Federal Government supported a 100-day tourism calendar to boost the economy, while 32,000 Nigerians received free tech skills and certifications from the FG academy.
