Taraba community appeals for urgent rehabilitation of dilapidated school

The Bandawa community in Taraba State's Karim-Lamido Local Government Council has urgently requested the rehabilitation of their dilapidated school, emphasizing its unsafe and unsuitable condition for learning. National Youth President Ishaya Peter Bandawa urged various stakeholders, including the state government, Karim-Lamido Local Government Council, Karim I Constituency Member, Universal Basic Education Commission, UNESCO, NGOs, philanthropists, and development partners to intervene.

The school, serving as the sole educational institution in the community, suffers from severe deterioration, including damaged buildings, cracked walls, fallen ceilings, and damaged roofs. It also lacks basic learning facilities, leaving pupils to resume academic activities in an unsafe environment. Bandawa stressed that the policy of free and compulsory education would only succeed if children had access to functional classrooms and adequate learning materials.

He appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas, Karim I Constituency Representative Abner Shitu Dabo, and relevant education authorities to prioritize the school's rehabilitation by providing essential facilities. Despite Bandawa's rural setting, the community's children possess the potential to become professionals if given the right educational environment.

Bandawa emphasized that the children's aspirations should not be dictated by the poor state of their school, urging stakeholders to treat the appeal as a collective call to action rather than an attempt to point fingers.
