Stanbic Bank Kenya names Michael Mutiga new CEO after CBK approval

Michael Mutiga has been officially appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Kenya, following approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). The Kenyan banking sector now has a fresh leader with a proven track record in the industry. Mutiga boasts over two decades of experience in leadership roles across banking, telecommunications and digital financial services.

His expertise encompasses strategy, business expansion, and organizational transformation, which he will bring to his new position at Stanbic Bank Kenya.

In a statement, Stanbic Bank expressed its anticipation for Mutiga's leadership, stating their commitment to creating long-term value for clients, employees, and stakeholders under his guidance. Before taking on the role at Stanbic Bank, Mutiga held significant positions at Safaricom as their Chief Business Development and Strategy Officer.

Prior to Safaricom, he spent 15 years at Citibank, where he climbed the ranks from various senior local and regional positions. Eventually, Mutiga became the Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance for Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Johannesburg.

Mutiga's banking career also encompassed a time at Barclays, where he served as the Regional Coverage Head for Investment Banking in East Africa. With this latest appointment, the banking industry in Kenya welcomes a new leader who has demonstrated his ability to navigate complex challenges and drive growth in diverse sectors.
