Sleep like a Pokemon (for free) at Hokkaido’s Poke Ball-themed hotel
Entries for free stays run through Sept. 30, and selected guests will visit the 3-meter-diameter Poke Ball in October.
An unusual hotel has opened in Hokkaido, Japan, which promises guests a unique sleeping experience inspired by Pokemon. The "Poke Ball-Themed Hotel" is a spherical structure, measuring 3 meters in diameter, designed in the shape of the iconic Poke Ball from the popular video game franchise. Located in the wooded area of Tomakomai, the hotel is managed by the architects behind the Not A Hotel hospitality group.
Although marketed as a hotel, Poke Ball-Themed Hotel is actually a standalone building situated near a lake, resembling a capsule hotel unit. Despite its remote location, the room is equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, such as a bed, air conditioning, and lighting. It also has an adjacent restroom.
The hotel is a collaboration between Not A Hotel and Pokemon Sleep, a sleep tracking and wellness app developed in part by The Pokemon Company. Instead of accepting public reservations, the Poke Ball hotel will select 10 pairs of guests through a social media lottery. To enter, applicants must be residents of Japan aged 18 or older, have the Pokemon Sleep app, follow the official Pokemon Sleep App account on X, create a post using the related campaign button, and complete an application form and survey sent via direct message.
Lottery winners will enjoy a complimentary two-day, one-night stay from October 8 to 18. While the accommodation is free, transportation to and from the site as well as incidentals are not included.
