Singing took 10 minutes; India work took dozens of hours, says Anwar

Dr. Zakir Naik, the controversial Malaysian preacher, has stated that he is not concerned about Indian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's recent comments regarding his extradition. Naik, who is wanted by Indian authorities on charges of money laundering and inciting extremism through hateful speeches, was represented by lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader during the hearing. According to reports from Indian media, Anwar has not committed to any action, including extradition, concerning the matter.

However, Abdul Kader dismisses the Indian media reports as mere speculation and claims they are part of a degrading attempt to sensationalize the issue. He likened it to a previous instance when India accused Naik of being involved with AIDS, stating that it's merely cheap publicity.

In a separate incident, Indian news portal New Delhi Television quoted Anwar, who was in India attending the BRICS Summit, as saying that any discussion about Naik was held privately in New Delhi. Anwar reportedly stated that any possibility of extradition from India should be approached with the utmost caution and based on the rule of law. In 2024, he reiterated that he would not consider extraditing Naik to India as long as the controversy does not cause any problems.

Meanwhile, Naik, who travels internationally and occasionally returns to Malaysia, is said to be inactive and has not made any statements touching upon India or Malaysia. Anwar also mentioned that Malaysia might consider India's extradition request if New Delhi presents more evidence. Abdul Kader noted that Naik hardly ever caused any trouble.
