Menteri perpaduan gesa ‘jenaka’ Noorazli disiasat

Bahagian Umno's Sepang Division chief, Noorazli Said, has been accused of making insensitive remarks about a Catholic priest and a nun during an Umno General Assembly meeting in Selangor. The remarks, which touched upon religious institutions, faith leaders, holy scriptures and beliefs, have been deemed highly offensive by Deputy Prime Minister Aaron Ago Dagang.

Aaron urged relevant authorities to investigate and probe the inflammatory statement under Section 298 and 298A of the Sedition Act, as it purported to incite feelings of religious hatred and cause religious division. He also emphasized that such remarks should not be tolerated and should not be treated as mere jokes. Aaron stressed that religion is not fodder for jokes and that any sacred belief system should not be manipulated, turned into sexual innuendos or used merely to garner laughs and applause.

Aaron also accepted Noorazli's apology for the 'insulting' remarks made during the Perhimpunan Umno meeting on Saturday, which centered on a priest and a nun. The incident prompted police reports against Noorazli, as well as calls for an apology from Umno Deputy Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh, Umno Sarawak Treasurer Salleh Said Keruak, and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau.
