Sentuo Airport Garden City project will help bridge Ghana’s housing deficit – Housing Minister

Ghana's Housing Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, announced that the Sentuo Airport Garden City project will play a significant role in addressing the country's housing shortage. As of the 2020 Population and Housing Census, Ghana had a housing deficit of approximately 1.8 million units, which is expected to have increased due to the growing population.

Speaking at the project's inauguration in Accra, Mr. Ibrahim praised the Executive Chairman of the Sentuo Group for investing in housing development, emphasizing the need for increased private sector participation to tackle the issue. He highlighted that while land is limited, Ghana needs to focus on growing upwards rather than expanding outward.

The Sentuo Airport Garden City development exemplifies how Ghana can maximize its limited land resources through modern, high-density constructions. The Minister is optimistic that public-private collaboration can greatly reduce the housing deficit in the coming years, with the government expecting the project and similar investments to lower the housing shortfall from the 1.8 million units recorded in 2020 to below one million in the near future.

Mr. Ibrahim also acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama's support for housing development and stressed that the government's partnership with the private sector is crucial in addressing Ghana's infrastructure requirements. He encouraged other investors to view Ghana as an attractive investment destination and contribute to the nation's progress by undertaking projects that tackle vital issues like housing.
