Sanusi, Kedah Umno leaders to meet over possible political cooperation

Kedah Chief Minister Sanusi Nor announced an upcoming meeting with Kedah Umno leaders to discuss potential political cooperation between the two parties. This informal gathering, which is expected to include Kedah Umno chairman Mahdzir Khalid and former Chief Minister Ahmad Bashah Hanipah, aims to explore the feasibility of such a partnership.

Sanusi, who serves as PAS's election director, confirmed that he has received permission from Kedah PAS to engage in talks with Mahdzir and Bashah regarding the possibility of collaborating in the state's political landscape. According to Utusan, Sanusi stated that any decisions made during the meeting would be sent to the central leadership for further deliberation.

The Kedah Chief Minister expressed hope that Umno would be open to a broader range of negotiations beyond the Melaka state election, taking into consideration the potential for seat swaps in other PAS-controlled states like Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis. Sanusi proposed that if Umno were willing to contest in these PAS-dominated regions, PAS could reciprocate by offering seats to Umno in Melaka and other Umno-controlled areas.

Sanusi emphasized that the negotiations should be based on each party's strengths and winning prospects rather than a strictly equal division of seats. He clarified that PAS is not aiming for an equal distribution of seats, but rather a fair and advantageous arrangement based on the capabilities and opportunities of both parties.
