Sammi Awuku welcomes adjustment to high-level narcotics meeting invitation

Sammi Awuku, the Minority Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has expressed satisfaction with the government's decision to modify the invitation list for a crucial meeting on border security and narcotics. In a Facebook post on September 15, the MP raised concerns about the omission of sector ministers from the meeting, which had initially been extended to heads of relevant agencies.

Awuku stated that the government had now rectified what he described as a "serious mistake" in the original invitation. He emphasized that his earlier criticism was not a personal attack on the Mahama administration, but rather an effort to ensure that officials with direct responsibility were properly positioned to answer to Parliament.

Awuku stressed that the fight against drug trafficking and the protection of Ghana's reputation should not be reduced to partisan politics. The Minority has committed to speaking up when it believes an issue requires attention, while also acknowledging government action when concerns have been addressed. This adjustment is seen as a step towards effective coordination among state institutions responsible for border security and combating narcotics trafficking, in light of growing concerns over Ghana's vulnerability to being used as a transit point for illicit drugs.
