Ruto tells Siaya residents to stop being used by Uhuru

President William Ruto has cautioned Siaya County Governor to stop acting as a proxy for former President Uhuru Kenyatta in opposing government initiatives, urging him instead to serve the residents of Siaya. The President noted that the residents did not elect him as Governor to be a puppet of the former President. Ruto asserted that even if Kenyatta couldn't defeat him in the 2022 General Elections, he cannot do so now that he is the incumbent President.

He also commented on Kenyatta's reduced status to an opposition leader, highlighting his role in opposing projects that the former President failed to deliver during his tenure. During a development tour in Siaya County, Ruto urged Kenyans to avoid supporting political parties without a clear agenda and vision for the country, and to refrain from gambling with their votes by supporting opposition leaders lacking a development track record.

He emphasized that the Broad-Based Government, comprising the United Democratic Alliance, Orange Democratic Movement, and Kenya Kwanza, has a proven track record and a vision to transform Kenya into a first-world economy. Ruto further stated that this coalition is the only formation capable of uniting the nation, possessing a credible plan to address the country's challenges.

He denounced other political parties as personal cults, briefcase parties, and tribal affiliations, devoid of new contributions to the nation. Ruto highlighted the importance of prioritizing Kenya's interests over individual politicians and parties, urging Kenyans to assess leaders based on their plans, agenda, and track record rather than their past positions.

Earlier, the President inaugurated the 31.8km Kalandini-Ka Elija road in Rarieda Constituency, a Sh1.9 billion project to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, and support local industries. He announced plans to commence construction of the 500km Lake Victoria Ring Road in November 2026, linking Siaya, Kisumu, and Homa Bay counties to Lake Victoria.

Additionally, Ruto unveiled a Sh32 billion investment for 400km of new roads in Siaya County, alongside the tarmacking of the Bondo-Usenge-Osieko road, and the allocation of Sh10 billion to the blue economy, including infrastructure development and the establishment of fish landing sites. Lastly, he emphasized the ongoing investments in affordable housing, modern markets, student accommodations, and the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project in Siaya County.
