Russia and China have condemned the US deployment of on-orbit space weapons, with Moscow calling for the “complete demilitarisation” of space. Washington says the newly deployed systems can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The 1967 Outer Space Treaty bans nuclear weapons in space but allows military activity.
