Resolve proclamation issue in court if necessary, says Negeri Sembilan MB

Negeri Sembilan Chief Minister Ismail Lasim has stated that resolving the issue of the proclamation seeking to remove the state's ruler should be done through legitimate constitutional and legal processes, including in court if necessary. In a Facebook post, he emphasized that the position of the Yang Di Pertuan Besar and the related processes are outlined specifically under the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.

Last week, four individuals presented a document allegedly containing the proclamation, dated August 3, to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. However, Ismail claimed he was forced to sign the proclamation and called it invalid as it did not follow the procedures outlined in Article 10 of the state constitution.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that Ismail had filed two police reports regarding the matter and that investigations have been initiated. Ismail reiterated that he does not have the unilateral authority to remove Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar and reiterated that his participation in the constitutional processes did not grant him the power to determine the ruler's position.

He clarified that the role of the Chief Minister should be carried out within the boundaries of the state constitution and its intent. The issue, according to Ismail, is not a matter of political power but rather a matter of adhering to the constitution and laws. The royal institution, undangs, Chief Minister, and state government each have positions and functions determined by the state constitution.
