Reports: El Mala in Klopp's first Germany squad, Baumann not

Young forward Saïd El Mala could make his debut for the German national team as part of Jürgen Klopp's maiden squad, according to reports from Kicker sports magazine. The 20-year-old Cologne player was part of the squad for two World Cup qualifiers under former coach Julian Nagelsmann, but he dropped after the first match and was also not picked for the World Cup.

Veteran goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, on the other hand, does not have a place in the new squad, with Bild quoting Baumann as saying Klopp had confirmed this to him. Baumann played in all qualifiers and two friendlies for Germany last year due to Marc-André ter Stegen's injury, but Manuel Neuer's return for the World Cup made him the second choice goalkeeper.

Klopp, who took over from Julian Nagelsmann after Germany's early exit from the World Cup, is expected to recall ter Stegen, who is now playing well at his new club Ajax in the Netherlands. Other potential candidates for the squad include Bayern reserve goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, Augsburg's Finn Dahmen, and Besiktas' Alexander Nübel.
