Report anyone demanding money for school placement – Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has called upon parents, guardians, and citizens to report individuals who request money related to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed made this appeal during a segment on JoyNews News Desk on September 15 after concerns about people paying to secure school placements persisted.

Mr Mohammed emphasized that placement is determined by merit and that no financial contributions are required from parents, guardians, or students. "Placement is based on merit. No parent, no guardian, or a student need not pay any money to any Ministry of Education official," he stressed. He reiterated that no payment should be made to Ministry officials, the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Ghana TVET), or the CSSPS for placement.

Mohammed urged those who encounter money-seeking individuals to report them to the relevant law enforcement agency. He acknowledged the ongoing nature of allegations but highlighted the challenges in investigating claims without solid evidence or cooperation from complainants. The Ministry requires public cooperation to effectively address the issue, as individual efforts alone are insufficient.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of providing concrete information during investigations, stating that successful prosecutions would demonstrate the Ministry's commitment to fairness in the placement process. He explained that public calls for reporting serve as examples to illustrate the Ministry's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the system.
