Punjab Launches Crackdown on Pressure Horns and Excessive Honking

The Punjab Traffic Police has initiated a province-wide enforcement action targeting pressure horns and excessive honking, implementing a strict ban on their usage throughout the region. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic issued directives to all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to enforce the crackdown without hesitation, targeting motorists who use pressure horns.

Authorities have been tasked with cracking down on unnecessary honking near sensitive locations such as hospitals, schools, and emergency centers. Motorists found guilty of frequent or continuous honking will face legal consequences under the law. Commercial vehicle owners are required to remove pressure horns from their vehicles promptly, or face punishment.

According to official records, over 383,000 individuals have been penalized in Punjab this year for violating the horn usage regulations. Lahore Traffic Police has issued 48,000 challans for improper horn usage alone. Pressure horns and continuous honking have been identified as harmful to human hearing and neurological health. The ongoing crackdown has contributed to a decline in noise pollution, as stated by traffic authorities.

The DIG Traffic has emphasized the importance of effective enforcement to safeguard citizens from unnecessary noise and pollution, without showing favoritism towards any violators. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the traffic police in curbing noise pollution. Authorities have underlined that safe and peaceful roads contribute to an environmentally friendly driving experience.
