Malaysia's authorities once again intercepted a cargo container destined for Israel at the Tanjung Pelepas port, according to Bloomberg. The incident followed the seizure of a container from the Philippines on August 7, which was intercepted by the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (AMSEA) due to suspicions of weapons intended for the Israeli defense technology firm, Elbit Systems Ltd. The containers, carrying electric bike spare parts from a Chinese manufacturer, were intercepted on August 19 and are currently under investigation.

The seizure comes in the wake of a similar action taken against a container from the Philippines on August 7, which was also suspected of containing weapons for the Israeli defense technology firm Elbit Systems Ltd. AMSEA stated that the items were examined to confirm the type, specifications, purpose, and classification, as well as to determine if they were subject to export control regulations.

Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and the Strategic Trade Act of 2010 also controls the export of sensitive technology and materials to combat terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
