The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) emphasized that the decision not to continue with four charges against Muhyiddin Yassin was based on a professional assessment of the evidence and the ability to prove the case in court, according to a statement. The AGC's assessment also considered the overall importance of the case and the potential risks of litigation, including the possibility of undermining Muhyiddin's strategies and evidence in other cases.

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur recently acquitted and released the Selangor Chief Minister from a charge of abuse of power and three charges of misappropriation of RM200 million from Bukhary Equity. The Chief Judge, Noor Ruwena Nurdin, made the decision after the Deputy AG, Ahmad Akram Gharib, requested Muhyiddin be acquitted without being charged.

The three charges of misappropriation involve the receipt of RM200 million from Bukhary Equity, while the abuse of power charge relates to Muhyiddin's request for that amount from the company. The AGC stressed that the decision not to continue the case does not mean it was without merit or that the transactions under investigation did not occur.

The AGC noted that a decision to continue the charges can and should be reassessed after a comprehensive review of all evidence, the credibility of witnesses, and their implications for other proceedings. The AGC also stated that Muhyiddin faces three additional charges under Section 23(1) of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Agency Act 2009, which will continue.
