The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) emphasized that the decision not to continue four charges against Muhyiddin Yassin was based on a professional assessment of the evidence and the evidence's admissibility in court, reported PETALING JAYA. The AGC stated that the assessment also considered the broader interests of the prosecution and found that continuing the charges would risk undermining the strategy and credibility of other prosecutions against the former prime minister.

Continuing the four charges against Muhyiddin Yassin, involving allegations of abuse of power and misappropriation of RM200 million from Bukhary Equity, would not be considered a responsible and prudent step, according to the AGC. However, the AGC clarified that the decision not to continue the charges does not mean that the transaction under investigation did not occur.

The prosecution could and should be re-evaluated after a comprehensive review of all evidence, credibility of witnesses, and its potential implications for other proceedings. The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today acquitted and released Muhyiddin Yassin from one charge of misconduct in office and three charges of money laundering involving RM200 million from Bukhary Equity.

Deputy Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib requested that Muhyiddin Yassin be acquitted without being punished for the charges. The three money laundering charges relate to the receipt of RM200 million from Bukhary Equity and the request by Muhyiddin Yassin for that amount from the company in question. The court found that the prosecution did not present any reason for the request, merely stating that they did not wish to pursue the charges.

The AGC also stressed that the decision not to continue the charges does not imply that it was done without grounds or that it can be interpreted as acknowledging that the investigated transaction did not take place.
