Palestinian citizens of Israel mobilise against settler outpost in Galilee

Palestinian citizens residing in Israel have initiated daily protests against a settler outpost in the Galilee region. This outpost, established by individuals from the Tekoa settlement in the West Bank, has been situated within the predominantly Palestinian-majority town of Majd al-Krum. The outpost was erected on state land on Friday. The town predominantly houses Palestinian citizens of Israel.

The outpost's establishment was announced by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich as part of his election campaign promise. He aimed to "Judaise" the Negev and Galilee by populating these areas with one million additional Jewish residents. Smotrich expressed his desire to expand this "settlement revolution" from the occupied West Bank to regions within Israel, where the majority of Palestinian citizens reside.

Local council members of Majd al-Krum have labeled the outpost as emerging in a "dangerous political context." They have cautioned that its presence is intended to bring about a new ground reality. Izz al-Din Badran, an activist affiliated with Majd al-Krum's popular committee, reported that residents discovered the outpost on Friday. In response, the committee has called for residents to persist in their mobilization efforts, aiming to compel the settlers to vacate the area.
