Pahang haze worsens as all five API stations record unhealthy readings

KUALA LUMPUR: Visibility in several areas of Pahang has been severely reduced due to a worsening haze, with all five Air Pollutant Index (API) monitoring stations in the state recording unhealthy readings. At noon, the readings ranged from 154 to 164, up from 145 to 152 just seven hours prior. The highest reading, 164, was recorded at Indera Mahkota, marking the highest level since haze started affecting the region. In contrast, as of 4pm the previous day, all stations had previously recorded good or moderate API readings.

Schools in Kuantan have suspended outdoor co-curricular activities, including physical education lessons, in response to the poor air quality. Pahang Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim has advised residents to limit outdoor activities, avoid open burning, and stay hydrated. Individuals in high-risk groups are urged to wear masks and exercise caution when venturing outdoors.

The Department of Environment and local authorities must increase monitoring and enforcement to prevent open burning throughout Pahang, according to Kassim. An API reading between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
