Operation Safed Sagar deleted scenes: Baldy bought Ajay Ahuja’s coffin, Alka drove the car

The 1999 Kargil War drama Operation Safed Sagar on Netflix India revealed several deleted scenes that offer lesser-known stories from the conflict. Director Oni Sen and actress Amrita Bagchi, who plays war widow Alka Ahuja, shared details about the scenes that didn't make it to the final cut.

Alka Ahuja never saw her husband's face in his coffin. In fact, she didn't even see his body, only the smaller-than-average coffin sent back by the Pakistani army. Amrita Bagchi explained that Alka felt she needed to maintain a sense of not having physical closure, which is why she chose not to view the coffin or the body.

Another deleted scene showed how Flying Officer Baldy (Mihir Ahuja) purchased Ajay Ahuja's coffin. Baldy had forgotten to collect money from the bank before leaving for Srinagar, so he entrusted the envelope with the money and a letter to his wife Alka. When it arrived with the coffin, Baldy kept the envelope in his overalls, assuming it was for a regular mission.

However, the mission ended tragically, and Baldy and Goofy (Arnav Bhasin) had to buy a new coffin using the money from the envelope. The scene depicted the emotional weight of this moment, but it was ultimately cut from the show.

The series also explored the sisterhood between Alka, Kamalpreet Kaur (Dia Mirza), and Madhavi Reddy (Prajakta Koli), soldier wives who supported each other during and after the war. They shared many emotional scenes together, one of which involved Madhavi Reddy giving birth while her husband Baldy and other men were at war. Alka then drove Kamalpreet and Madhavi to the hospital in the car left by Ajay Ahuja.
