Sega and Netflix have joined forces to bring the video game worlds of Crazy Taxi, Stranger Than Heaven, and Sonic the Hedgehog to the big and small screens. The partnership will see these beloved games transformed into films and television series. Crazy Taxi, a classic racing game from the Dreamcast era, will be adapted into a feature film written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for their work on The Naked Gun 2025 reboot.

The film is being produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara, who have previously worked on the Sonic franchise.

In addition to Crazy Taxi, Netflix will also produce an animated Sonic the Hedgehog series aimed at an upper preschool audience. The series will be a high-voltage, comedic, yet emotionally grounded show for kids who crave a bit of edge, attitude, and the wish fulfillment of having a crew they can call their own.

Stranger Than Heaven, a live-action movie set in early 20th-century Japan, will center around a foreigner who rises from a destitute stranger to a feared yakuza boss and entertainment tycoon. The film, set to release on January 15, 2027, is being produced by Toru Nakahara, head producer at Sega.

Sonic the Hedgehog, with its bright and exciting gameplay, is expected to have a cute yet cool tone for the animated series. Crazy Taxi, on the other hand, is anticipated to deliver a hilariously crazy and action-packed story. Stranger Than Heaven, meanwhile, will offer a badass action drama. Sega's head producer Toru Nakahara expressed excitement about the creative ideas the partnership will bring to life.

Crazy Taxi is slated to be the first of three projects to be released, with the game's new entry, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, set to launch in 2027. The timing of these projects coincides with the growing trend of video game movies and shows in Hollywood.
