Mohamad Hasan’s vibes were the sanest to have emerged from Umno

Mohamad Hasan, deputy president of the United Malay National Organisation (Umno), demonstrated the most rational and balanced perspective within the party. In his policy address to the party's youth, Wanita, and Puteri wings, Hasan advocated for a middle-ground approach that was far from the aggressive rhetoric of right-wing factions within Umno.

He emphasized the importance of not driving non-Malays, allies in the Peninsula, and Sabah and Sarawak members away from the organization. Hasan cautioned against imposing conservative and radical ideologies on Umno, stating, "You cannot impose your ideology on Umno." His proposal to test PAS's sincerity in collaborating with Umno, including dissolving the Terengganu state assembly and allowing Umno to contest half the seats in a snap poll, proved to be a pragmatic suggestion.

While Umno is a nationalist party, PAS is deeply religious, and their differences in ideology make a harmonious coexistence challenging. As Umno continues to distance itself from radicalism, it will be intriguing to observe how PAS responds to these cautious measures and reevaluate their potential collaboration.
