Model parliament should be created in schools and colleges: Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of fostering new leadership by introducing model parliaments in schools and colleges. He proposed establishing a "Youth Parliament" inspired by the Anubhava Mantapa, a social reformer's initiative credited as the world's first parliament. Shivakumar highlighted India's role as a model democracy through this historical concept and stressed the need for youth to understand the democratic setup.

He announced the decision to hold elections in every college, aiming to identify potential leaders among students. Shivakumar acknowledged the challenges leaders face and recounted his own struggles in gaining leadership roles during his school and college years. He also mentioned the establishment of a legal bank following Rahul Gandhi's call for legal teams in each taluk to guide those at risk of losing voting rights.

The Chief Minister stressed that democracy is not merely about elections but about providing dignity, respect, and livelihood rights to all citizens. The International Day of Democracy was commemorated across Karnataka, underscoring the significance of this fundamental value.
