Malaysia won’t allow cargo aiding Israel’s military, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared Malaysia will not permit its territory to be utilized as a transit point for shipments aiding Israel's military endeavors. In a Facebook post, Ibrahim emphasized Malaysia's unwavering commitment to preventing the nation from being exploited for military aggression or acts against innocent individuals.

The prime minister stated, "Malaysia's stance is crystal clear and unambiguous. We will not permit our country to be utilized as a conduit for any shipment that supports or contributes to Israel's military capabilities and its offenses against Palestinians and other innocent lives."

Ibrahim's assertion follows Bloomberg's report of three containers bound for Israel at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor on August 19. The containers, containing electric bicycle parts from a Chinese manufacturer, were being transported to the Port of Ashdod, south of Tel Aviv. The contents of these containers are currently under investigation.

The seizure was preceded by another incident on August 7, where Malaysian authorities detained a container from the Philippines suspected of holding weapons destined for Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems Ltd. Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency inspected the cargo to ascertain its nature, specifications, intended use, and classification, as well as to determine whether it was subject to trade control laws.

Malaysia does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel. The Strategic Trade Act 2010 governs the export of sensitive technology and materials, encompassing measures to prevent terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and the dissemination of weapons of mass destruction.
