Mahama urges investors to comply with Ghana’s laws, prioritise local participation

President John Dramani Mahama addressed investors in Ghana at the groundbreaking ceremony for the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project in Accra. He urged these businesses to fully comply with local laws and regulations, while ensuring their projects generate substantial benefits for Ghanaian enterprises and workers. Mahama emphasized that government remains committed to creating a stable and welcoming environment for investments, but stressed that investors must also contribute to the nation's overall economic growth.

The impact of large-scale investments should be measured not just by the scale of infrastructure created, but also by the job creation, business opportunities, and skills development they offer Ghanaians. Mahama expressed willingness to collaborate with investors who are dedicated to the long-term success of Ghana, and pledged to strengthen the business environment to support such investments.

In return, he demanded that investors respect Ghanaian laws, uphold the highest standards, and provide genuine opportunities for Ghanaian businesses and workers to participate. He specifically called for greater involvement of local enterprises in major projects, including through contracts and supply opportunities. Mahama further implored investors to invest in the development of young people by offering apprenticeships, practical training, and skills transfer.

He believed that such initiatives would not only benefit individual projects, but also bolster local capacity and support Ghana's long-term development.
