Lions OT Blake Miller ‘optimistic’ about playing despite knee injury

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Blake Miller, the team's first-round pick, expressed optimism about playing despite suffering a knee injury. Miller, known for his consistency at Clemson, had never missed a game during his three-year college career, starting 54 consecutive contests. However, after appearing on the NFL injury report, concerns arose about his availability, as the Lions faced the Bills on a short week.

Initially listed as a non-participant, Miller's outlook shifted after making progress during a walkthrough practice on Monday. He emphasized his commitment to getting his body feeling its best and expressed optimism about his chances of playing. Lions coach Dan Campbell remained cautious in his assessment, stating that a definitive answer would come the following day.

Although Miller did not specify the moment of injury, he revealed that he proactively sought early rehabilitation to avoid further complications. In case of Miller's absence, veteran Larry Borom, with 38 starts in his five-year NFL career, could step in. The Lions also faced uncertainty regarding left guard Christian Mahogany's participation, as his injury was deemed less severe but potentially problematic for the upcoming Thursday game against the Bills.

Campbell acknowledged the possibility of Mahogany's limited readiness, but emphasized that starting veteran guard Ben Bartch showed promise and should improve with further experience.
