Let them ref the games and be humans - Andrews

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has expressed his discontent with the role of video assistant referees (VAR) in football matches. After a 2-1 victory over League One side Reading, Andrews lamented the officiating decisions made by human referees. The match saw Reading defender Paudie O'Connor's goal ruled out for a high boot, leading Royals boss Leam Richardson to call it one of the worst decisions he had witnessed in his career.

Despite no VAR being employed during this stage of the EFL Cup, Andrews argued that referees should be allowed to make independent decisions and be more human. He suggested that the frequent use of VAR is causing referees to second-guess themselves, resulting in a lack of decisive officiating. Andrews' comments came in light of Pro Ref admitting to an error of judgement in awarding Manchester City's winning goal against Manchester United, as Erling Haaland's strike was allowed despite Enzo Fernandez being offside.
