Lagos fires destroy goods worth millions of naira in Ikorodu, Surulere

Two major fires in Lagos' Ikorodu and Surulere areas have caused significant damage to property and goods, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The agency's Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, reported the incidents in a statement on Monday. The first fire broke out at Adamo Bus Stop in Ikorodu early Monday morning, believed to be caused by faulty electrical wiring.

It spread from a hairdressing shop to surrounding establishments, destroying three shops and their contents worth millions of naira. Emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly contained the blaze, preventing any casualties or injuries. The cause of the Surulere fire remains unknown. Both fires prompted LASEMA teams to respond to road emergencies across the city.

In Sunday afternoon, LASEMA's Alpha Eagle Response Team dealt with a malfunctioning truck blocking traffic at Olupese Bus Stop. On Sunday, they also assisted a commercial bus that overturned on the Third Mainland Bridge due to a reported tyre burst. On Monday, LASEMA responded to a tanker breakdown and another breakdown, all of which were successfully resolved without incident.

LASEMA thanked the various emergency services for their prompt and professional action in these situations, emphasizing their commitment to protecting lives and property through better training, equipment, and response times. They also urged residents to maintain their vehicles properly and adhere to electrical safety standards to minimize emergencies.
