Konjunktur: Iran-Krieg treibt Preise im Großhandel

Wiesbaden - Germany's wholesale prices surged in August to their highest level in over five and a half years, according to the Statistisches Bundesamt. The prices increased by 6.8 percent compared to the previous month. The most significant jump within a year was seen in February 2023, when prices rose by 9.5 percent. The primary driver of the price hike in August 2026 remains the warfare in Iran and the Middle East, leading to a sharp rise in wholesale prices for energy products and raw materials, as explained by the German federal authority.

Mineral oil products, for instance, were over one-third (36.1 percent) more expensive than a year ago. Overall, wholesale prices across the board rose by 0.9 percent from July to August of the current year. Wholesale trade represents one of several stages in the formation of overall price levels. Alongside wholesale trade, these include the prices of goods imported into Germany and the prices manufacturers receive for their products.
