Ibu Yap Shing Xuen's mother, Wong Lee Ping, has urged the State Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) to appeal to the Malaysian High Court to release a 15-year-old boy accused of murdering her daughter. Wong, who goes by Aapple Wong on Facebook, expressed concerns about justice for the victim and school safety, stating her worry over the recent High Court decision.

She requested the AGC to consider her concerns and challenge the decision to ensure the case can be re-evaluated by a higher court. The High Court recently granted bail to the 15-year-old boy, who was convicted of murdering Yap during school hours at a secondary school in Bandar Utama on October 14, 2025, between 9:20 am and 9:35 am.

The boy was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of death or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years. If not sentenced to death, he could receive a minimum of 12 years in jail. However, Section 97(1) of the Children's Act 2001 prohibits the death penalty for someone who was a minor at the time of the offense, while Section 97(2) provides an alternative of imprisonment for the remainder of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's, King's or Sultan's lifetime, depending on the state where the crime was committed.
