Hyrox changes rules after athlete soiled herself in competition

On September 15, 2023, global fitness race organisation Hyrox announced changes to its rules following an incident at a race in Beijing. Women's world record holder Joanna Wietrzyk was allowed to continue and win despite soiling herself during the event. In response, Moritz Fuerste, co-founder of the fitness-racing hybrid, apologised to all directly or indirectly affected.

He stated that Hyrox had made a mistake by not reacting immediately and that they were starting to improve event processes and rulebook changes. As of now, new rules and procedures are in place to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. Founded in 2017, Hyrox's standardised indoor fitness race has grown from a niche challenge into a global phenomenon.
