Ghana, Columbus partner to recruit nurses for US employment

The Government of Ghana and the City of Columbus, Ohio, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the recruitment of qualified Ghanaian nurses for employment in the United States. This partnership was established following months of technical discussions between the Ministries of Health and Labour, Jobs and Employment in both countries.

The MoU, signed on September 15, 2023, aims to provide a structured and ethical framework for the deployment of Ghanaian health professionals, particularly nurses, to the US. Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh emphasized that the agreement prioritizes the rights, welfare, and professional interests of Ghanaian health workers, ensuring compliance with Ghana's Migration Policy and international standards.

The initiative builds upon existing sister-city relationships and the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme. By creating a clear pathway for Ghanaian nurses, the partnership seeks to expand international employment opportunities for health professionals while safeguarding their welfare and professional rights in line with global best practices.
