GBA to announce position on Tribunals Law soon – GBA President

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has announced its intention to declare its stance on the Tribunals Law soon, following thorough research by its Legal Committee. Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association Conference 2026/27 in Ada, President Efua Ghartey revealed that the Legal Committee, headed by Ace Ankomah, is currently examining the legislation.

She emphasized that the GBA would not hastily announce a position on the law, but would instead conduct a meticulous legal and constitutional analysis. The Bar will scrutinize the law's consistency with the constitutional framework, particularly regarding the jurisdiction granted to the tribunals and the entities responsible for appointments.

Notably, the independence of the tribunals will be a critical factor in the GBA's assessment. The GBA President reiterated the organization's commitment to ensuring that legislation and institutional arrangements align with Ghana's constitutional standards, while assuring the public that the GBA will continue to hold statutory and governmental bodies accountable to the Constitution.

President John Mahama had signed the Tribunals Bill, 2026, into law in August, despite opposition from the Minority in Parliament, organized labor, and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
