CRIC has no control over policy content of amendment Bills – Barker-Vormawor

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Secretary of the Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC), has clarified the Committee's role and responsibilities in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Barker-Vormawor emphasized that CRIC is a technical body, not a policy body, and its mandate is limited to drafting amendment Bills in accordance with the Constitution.

He explained that the Committee is responsible for preparing one Bill on entrenched provisions and another on non-entrenched provisions, but it does not have control over the policy content of those Bills. Barker-Vormawor further clarified the role of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the constitutional amendment process. He stated that the EC, and not CRIC, is responsible for organizing the referendum required for amendments to entrenched provisions and makes decisions regarding the form of the referendum.
