Exclusive-Boeing set to salvage delayed Turkish Airlines order, sources say

Boeing is reportedly close to finalizing a delayed order for 150 737 MAX jets from Turkish Airlines, sources say. The deal, part of a deal package of 225 jets announced after Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan met with U.S. President Donald Trump a year ago, had been delayed due to a dispute over maintenance with engine maker CFM.

The disagreement centered on who should bear the risk of long-term repairs, with Turkish Airlines requesting an industrial deal on engine maintenance. However, the issue appears to be resolved, and the order may be signed next week, according to three sources familiar with the matter. The deal's confirmation would avoid a potential reversal of last year's White House announcement, which featured Boeing deals associated with Trump.

Turkish media reported that Trump and Erdogan were expected to meet again next week during UN General Assembly gatherings in New York. The dispute stemmed from Turkish Airlines' threat to switch to Airbus if the deal fell through, as well as its desire to open its own maintenance plant for the 737 MAX engines.
