Drone shot down by Nato over Lithuania

In Lithuania, NATO fighter jets shot down a drone on Tuesday, according to President Gitanas Nauseda. This incident is the latest security concern along NATO's eastern border as Russia continues its full-scale invasion of Ukraine since 2022. Lithuanian president emphasized the importance of NATO's readiness in the region due to Russia's escalating aggression.

The drone was reported to have originated from neighboring Belarus and was heading west before being destroyed in a rural area near Lake Kaunas. Lithuanian foreign minister Kestutis Budrys thanked NATO allies for their presence, highlighting the unity and resolve of the alliance in action. Poland also reported that aviation operations were initiated in its airspace due to Russian Federation's unmanned aerial vehicles conducting strikes on Ukrainian territory, aiming to secure the airspace and protect areas adjacent to threatened regions.

The incident occurred as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated his country was prepared for de-escalatory steps if Russia did the same, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of an agreement to stop targeting each other's energy sites. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continued long-range strikes against Russian military targets in Krasnodar Krai at night, while Russia launched 102 drones at Ukraine.
