DMK submits breach of privilege complaint to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker against Law Minister Nirmal Kumar

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) submitted a breach of privilege complaint to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The complaint demanded action against Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar for allegedly offering false information during the recently concluded Budget session. DMK MLAs M.R.K.

Panneerselvam, Vasantham K. Karthikeyan, E. Raja, and Kadhar Batcha submitted the complaint. Speaking to reporters, DMK Whip E.V. Velu and Panneerselvam stated that Kumar breached the House's rules and conventions by negatively portraying the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during the Assembly session. They alleged that Kumar's remarks were based on the Sarkaria Commission report and that he had previously been criticized for his speech on this matter by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

DMK legislators further claimed that Kumar negatively portrayed Vaithilingam, A.L. Srinivasan, and H.V. Rao, secretaries to Karunanidhi who were not Assembly members, without providing prior intimation. The complaint urged that the matter be referred to the Privileges Committee.
