Lanning attributed Moore's absence to the fact that the quarterback was undergoing medical treatment and was not in a condition to address the media. Lanning revealed that Moore had received two intravenous drips post-game due to dehydration and playing in harsh weather conditions. While it might have been understandable not to expect a press conference from a 21-year-old player in such a state, Lanning's reaction made it clear that he was rehashing a perceived slight.

The Oregonian had accurately pointed out that the media were not informed about Moore's medical situation in real-time, but Lanning did not apologize for the lapse. Instead, he accused the reporter of having misconstrued the situation and sarcastically congratulated them.
