Calgary man accused of threatening to kill Prime Minister Mark Carney

According to prosecutors, a Calgary man named Jamie Dacosta, 31, has been accused of posting death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. The RCMP received information on July 28 regarding the alleged threats made through a YouTube account. Dacosta was subsequently arrested and charged with uttering a threat to the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, with intent to cause death under Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The investigation was conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, an RCMP unit responsible for investigating criminal offenses against internationally protected persons, terrorism, espionage, and cyber attacks. The RCMP emphasized that the security environment surrounding public figures is constantly evolving and that increased vigilance is necessary. Dacosta is currently in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance in Calgary on September 15.
