SPD-Generalsekretär Tim Klüssendorf has harshly criticized Bundeswirtschaftsministerin Katherina Reiche over record-high fuel prices. Klüssendorf accused Reiche of inaction, stating, "It's finally enough. Millions of people in our country are still struggling with excessively high fuel prices, and the responsible minister, Katherina Reiche, watches as oil companies make record profits at the expense of citizens."

Klüssendorf made these comments to the news portal t-online. He reiterated three of his party's demands as immediate measures: implementing a fuel price cap like in Belgium or Luxembourg, imposing a surcharge on excess profits of oil companies during crises, and ensuring transparency in how fuel prices are determined. Reiche opposed a fuel price cap and instead advocated for direct payments to certain population groups, stating, "This could be a way to quickly alleviate the burden, but targeted at those income groups that have little or no taxes." She made these remarks during an interview with RTL/ntv on Monday.
