Beskrestnov backs civilian access to Defence Forces map tracking Russian UAV movements

More than 500 locomotives have been either completely destroyed or damaged by Russian attacks throughout the ongoing full-scale war, with more than half of the incidents occurring since the beginning of this year, according to Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The Foreign Minister made this statement on September 15, as Russia escalates its drone attacks on trains traversing Ukraine, with a recent strike hitting a locomotive of the Kyiv-Warsaw train, approximately two kilometers from the Polish border.

Another Russian attack on September 15 targeted unspecified railway infrastructure in western Volyn Oblast, resulting in a diesel locomotive catching fire, but there were no casualties. Sybiha highlighted that Russia is systematically targeting logistics across Ukraine, emphasizing the urgent need for replacements, urging Western allies to assist in procuring compatible locomotives with a 1520 mm gauge.

The State Emergency Service reported that the attack on the locomotive did not result in any casualties. In response to the growing number of attacks, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) implemented an evacuation protocol in March to minimize casualties in the event of heightened aerial threats. However, the increased number of evacuations has led to significant train delays, raising concerns about the vulnerability of rail routes previously considered relatively safe, even as Russian drone attacks intensify.
