Awaken to the North Mission combines faith, sport and community development in Lonto

The ninth edition of the Awaken to the North Mission in Lonto, Northern Region, brought together faith, sport, and community development over a two-week period. The mission, led by Catechist Silas Aristotle Tagoe of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana's Faith Congregation, aimed to engage church members, young people, children, and residents in evangelism, sports, and community activities.

One of the mission's key highlights was the creation and dedication of a recreational centre at the Emmanuel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Lonto. This project, spearheaded by the Awaken to the North Mission team, will provide young people and residents with access to sporting and recreational facilities, including football, swimming, volleyball, and basketball.

The Northern Presbyterian Chairperson, Rev. Simon Yeboah, attended the dedication ceremony, highlighting the significance of the initiative for the Northern Presbytery, particularly its focus on providing a recreational space for young people. The project's land was cleared by the church, and tree planting was part of the dedication ceremony.

However, the recreational centre's completion is still pending, and the mission team has appealed to stakeholders, NGOs, and other organizations for support to ensure the facility can fully serve the community.
